Planet’earth

Angers, capital of the plant realm - Théâtre Le Quai, resolutely Europe oriented...
Ponctuation Planet’Terre is the result of cross-breeding the culture of the soil and that of theatrical scenes - and elaborated in the spirit of France’s Haute Qualité Environnementale (HQE) ("High Environmental Quality") program in an urban context of sustainable development. Thus has Théâtre Le Quai embedded environmental issues in its Open-Arts programming.

This project far exceeds the bounds of urban space, since it is part of the 2020 THIN ICE: art et changement climatique ("Thin Ice 2020: Art and Climate Change") network, whose six satellite projects based on proposals for contemporary artworks have allowed the relevant competencies to be pooled and various cultural projects to be implemented. The network helps support artists whose work centers around the most important challenge humanity will face in the centuries to come: saving the planet.

The project was launched in June 2007 during the opening festivities of Fenêtre sur Terre ("Window on Planet Earth"), which brought together 20 professional artists who had been invited to submit proposals for environmentally oriented projects that combine art and social responsibility. The proposals of Frédéric Ferrer, Lucie Lom, Pierre Lafon and the team of Hiromi Kashiwagi and Lulu Balladart were accepted by Open-Arts’ artistic directors and a jury consisting of representatives from the city of Angers, the École des Beaux-Arts, Terre des Sciences, Fondation Mécène et Loire, and Ademe, which met during a Dimanche en famille event during which some 700 citizens of Angers had the opportunity to view all of the project proposals. These six artists will present their take on Planet Earth during Ponctuation Planet’Terre beginning in October.
