CHOREOGRAPHY ISRAEL GALVÁN

Challenging the codes of an art that he masters perfectly, Israel Galván returns to the source, to the drawing board, the golden age of flamenco (at the end of the 19th century). Accompanied by the singing of Fernando Terremoto and the guitar of Alfredo Lagos, Israel Galván interweaves eras, norms and styles. He deconstructs, seeking that which glimmers in order to create, free of all mannerisms, original movement inside the grammar of flamenco. He offers a refined dance, in complete audacity and simplicity, a performance of classic yet novel account. The dancer embodies a new golden age, that of the current dance, open to originality.

Born in Seville in 1973, Israel Galván originates from a world of flamenco where his parents were highly reputed. From five years of age, he accompanied his father to the tablaos, the fiestas and the academies of dance. In 1994, he joined the Compaña Andaluza de Danza and now, a dozen years latter, he expresses his style, modern, unadorned and defiant, through seven creations. After having obtained the most important flamenco prizes, he received the National Prize for Dance of the Ministry of Spanish Culture in 2005.
