MUSICAL (FRANCE) BY JAMES WOOD, WITH LES PERCUSSIONS DE STRASBOURG (artistic direction JEAN-PAUL BERNARD)
This musical is inspired by the Story of the Little Hunchback, taken from the tales of the 25th night of One Thousand and One Nights.
One night, a little hunchback is invited to the home of a tailor, he chokes on a fish bone and dies... That is how this story full of twists and turns begins. The panicked tailor drops the body off at the home of a Jewish doctor who then transfers it to the home of his neighbour, a Muslim cook, the latter then gets rid of the corpse in a dark alley. There the body of the hunchback is kicked by a Christian merchant, dead drunk. Arrested by the police, the merchant is to be hung but the protagonists from the beginning of the tale declare themselves guilty of the crime in turn. Not knowing who to hang, the crowd grows weary of this never ending tale, the sky blackens and a miracle occurs: the little hunchback sneezes and spits out the fish bone.
Each of the principal characters is represented by a group of specific and easily identifiable instruments. On the stage, three percussionists, armed with bizarre and mysterious instruments, collaborate with a mischievous and resourceful actor in order to reveal, in a kaleidescope of characters and rhythms, this surprising story.
