For the second part of their Chroniques du Réchauffement ("Chronicles of Global Warming") cycle, Frédéric Ferrer and his Vertical Détour company explore the ramifications and challenges of the upcoming post-Kyoto period. An author, actor and director whose performance pieces adeptly combine art and science, Mr. Ferrer has immersed himself in the Kyoto protocol and various reports on climate change, and accompanied the French delegation to the most recent United Nations Climate Change Conference.
Born of this cross-breeding, Kyoto Forever, which takes its name from "a development and economic growth scenario for the 21st century," is a theatrical piece in which the emissaries of humanity seek a new accord after the implementation period for the Kyoto protocol expires.
Eight experts seated around a table at an international summit conference each do their clown act. "This meeting of serious minded representatives with a mission to accomplish who become absurdly gesticulating puppets" attempts to prevent the negotiations from collapsing. Kyoto Forever is the chaotic tale of a summit that is "subject to bizarre disruptions."
