THE CITY OF ANGERS

Le Quai, a lighthouse project for the City of Angers
The artist Ben traced the words "imagining Angers tomorrow" in his own particular handwriting on one of his paintings. What if Le Quai were the symbol of that Angers of tomorrow? Le Quai marks an important step in Angevine cultural history and in the urbanisation policy of the City. Located in the downtown area, Le Quai participates in the reclamation of the banks of the Maine River and in the reconnection of its two sides.

Facing the Chateau of King René, Le Quai is a building exemplifying more than a title. Built according to rigorous environmental standards, it symbolises the will of the City to engage the two sides of the river in a dialogue, to open the paths which cross between city centre and the historic quarter of La Doutre.

The mayor, Jean-Claude Antonini, wanted Le Quai to open onto the city, with its large forecourt and its vast, windowed Forum, embrassing a cultural diversity accessible to everyone, without limits and without preconceptions. Le Quai promises to be an exceptional place in France for its creativity, its training, and its artistic performances. Thanks to the quality of its team and its programming, it will quickly become the beacon of the cultural seasons for Angers and the region. It will also shine on the national and international level. The City invites all Angevines to embark on a voyage in this new cultural vessel. Let’s throw open the windows on the arts!
